Specifications

Uploads are checked by file extension because browsers report media types unreliably. A file with an unlisted extension is rejected before it uploads.

File types

Noxtua accepts these 25 file types, plus .zip archives: .pdf, .docx, .doc, .odt, .rtf, .pptx, .xlsx, .xls, .csv, .tsv, .txt, .md, .markdown, .html, .htm, .xml, .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff, .bmp, .webp, .eml and .msg. The table below groups them by category and shows how each is previewed and read.

CategoryExtensionsIn-app preview
Word documents.docx, .doc, .odt, .rtf.docx opens editable in the Word editor; others have no preview
PDF.pdfRead-only viewer
Spreadsheets.xlsx, .xls, .csv, .tsv.xlsx only; .xls (older format) has no preview
Presentations.pptxNo preview
Text and markup.txt, .md, .markdown, .html, .htm, .xmlNo preview
Images.png, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff, .bmp, .webp.png, .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp and .webp are shown in the side panel; .tif and .tiff can't be shown, so the panel offers a download instead
Email.eml, .msgBody and attachment list; attachments of supported types upload as separate documents
Archives.zipNever stored; unpacked in the browser and each file uploaded on its own

FAQs

Why do I see "Unsupported file type"? The file's extension is not among the 25 supported types. Check the extension. For example, rename .JPG.download to .jpg, or save the file in a supported format such as PDF.

Why do I see "Too large to upload (max. 100 MB)" for a file under 100 MB? Your organization's proxy is likely set to a lower request limit than the app's. Ask IT to raise it to about 100 MB.

Why do I see "Could not upload the file" for a long Word document? The document's text exceeds the 1 MB limit for text in a .docx file. Split the document or upload it as a PDF.

Why do I see "These emails or zip archives could not be opened"? The archive is over 250 MB, contains more than 500 files, or is damaged. Split it into smaller archives.

My file uploaded, but it shows "The file is too large to process." The file was stored, but text extraction could not complete, often because it is a very large scanned PDF. Split the PDF into smaller parts and upload them again.

A file stays in "extracting" for a long time. Scanned documents take the longest. If no file ever finishes, text extraction is not configured on your deployment; contact IT.

Some files from my zip or email were "not added". Files are skipped if their type is unsupported, they are over 100 MB, or they sit in a zip nested more than 5 levels deep. The notification lists each skipped file. Convert, split or unzip those files as needed, then upload them separately. An archive with more than 500 files is refused whole instead (see the question above).

Can other people see files I upload in a chat? No. Files are private to you. Every chat inside the same project can read them.

Why can't I edit my PDF or .doc file? Only .docx files open in the Word editor. Save the file as .docx and upload it again.

Where is the microphone button? Voice input appears only if your deployment has a transcription service configured. Contact IT.
